Pizza Dough

  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 T yeast
  • 1 c water
  • 1 egg
  • 4 T butter
  • 4 flour

Soften yeast in 1 cup of very warm water. Place sugar and salt in a bowl; melt butter and add to bowl and begin mixing. Add egg and continue mixing; add yeast and water and continue. Add 3 cups of flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing continuously. Add the last cup of flour a little at a time; stop adding flour when the dough cleans the sides of the bowl and forms a ball. Continue kneading for a total of 8-10 minutes. Turn on the oven (any temperature) for 1 minute, then turn off the heat and turn on the light. Place the dough in a greased ovenproof bowl (metal, glass, or ceramic) and let it rise in the warm oven for 1 hour. Punch down and cut into 2 pieces. Let dough rest for 5-10 minutes to ease the shaping. Then stretch and pat each piece of dough onto a greased pizza pan or cookie sheet. Put the goods on. Bake at 400 degrees for about 12-13 minutes or until done.
